“Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…”
Well hopefully that has got you singing because that’s going to help too!
In actual fact I’ll come back to the start (A) as I would really like to start with B…
With exam season upon us, the tax year end just gone and world events escalating (just some of many things that have the habit of making us feel stressed and anxious) what better time than now to be talking about B vitamins!
There are lots of them and they are needed for so many functions in our body - energy, hormone balance, focus, memory, concentration, digestion, healthy immune system, growth, reproduction, circulation, blood sugar regulation – to name but a few.
But really importantly for coping with stress, anxiety and depression!
What’s more, did you know that we need MORE of them when we are stressed. Why? Because stress depletes our reserves of B vits and means that we need to find more of them so that our body can cope.
And remember if you’re partial to a tipple (especially in stressful times), this will also increase your need for more B vits…!
Foods that are FULL of vitamin B:
Whole grains, dark leafy greens, carrots, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, quinoa, organic eggs, wild salmon, mushrooms, organic liver, avocado, banana, asparagus, poultry; the list goes on…
2 more things you can do NOW to reduce stress:
Move
Just try and do more than you’re doing at the moment ….. and choose something that is easy to achieve….
Walking the dog at a faster pace or maybe for a bit longer?
Walking or cycling rather than jumping in the car / on a bus.
Signing up to an exercise class with a friend.
Get outside
Get into nature whenever you can and marvel at the beauty!
If you can, try and go outside as soon as you can after waking up. Just breathe and look towards the sun.
We are only just scratching the surface here, but if you start more often than not by
Eating a wholefood diet (more than 5 ingredients in a pre-packed food you’re already in muddy waters).
Exercising to get the heart beating and blood flowing.
Getting outside into nature….. and BREATHE!
you are already on the road to calm and tranquillity in your life.
