During my twenties, having left home and free to live my life how I wished, I became plagued by excruciating stomach aches, lack of energy and subsequent emotional turmoil. After too many episodes of being sent home from work, hospital visits (during which they found nothing) and days on end in bed, I began to realise that this wasn’t normal. The stomach pain, energy fluxes and mood changes were making me feel inadequate and preventing me from living my life full stop let alone to the full. I started wondering whether the food that I was (or wasn’t!) eating as well as the demands of my job and lifestyle might be the problem and were all linked to increased anxiety. With no solutions from my GP I looked for ways to get my health back on track and found that by making seemingly small changes to how I was living, and to the food I was eating, I very quickly had much more energy, was happier and free of any feelings of anxiousness. Painful stomach aches were also a thing of the past!
More recently (for the past 15 years) I have been closely involved in schools and with three children of my own I see gen Z precariously navigate their way through adolescence and their twenties dealing with feelings of inadequacy, isolation, stress and anxiety and extreme pressure. I am passionate about helping people find resilience to life’s challenges through diet and lifestyle and overcome the mental, physical and emotional health challenges life brings.
